Crowley Cheeseis an all-natural gourmet cheese made from fresh, whole, unpasteurized milk without additives or preservatives. Our milk comes from cows certified BST and BGH free.
All of our cheese is made entirely by hand, exactly the same way as in the last century, receiving all of the care and attention that only such a small, unmechanized process can bestow. Although somewhat similar to the English style cheddars made by other Vermont producers, it is not nearly as acidic nor as dry.
Crowley Cheese is one of a very small number of genuine American cheeses. Very few cheeses originated in the United States; most came to this country with the various immigrant groups who settled here. The Crowley Cheese Factory was built in 1882 in the tiny hamlet of Healdville, Vermont, by Winifred Crowley, and cheese has been made there ever since. It is the oldest cheese factory in America, and a National Historic Place.
